I told you I had some developments that I was working on a while back. Well, people, those developments developed this week into a brand-spankin-new job! Here’s how it all went down…
Currently, I work in-house for a real estate company. It’s design work, but it’s nothing glamorous. So, of course I had my head in the clouds 90% of the time, dreaming of a brightly lit studio with mac stations as far as the eye can see. So, I hunkered down and created a self-promo piece (I’ll be sure to share that soon too!) and sent it out to studios all over Chicago.
After I sent out my packets, I got an unbelievable email the next day asking for me to come in for an interview. Of course, I slapped on my cutest outfit (purchased specifically for the occasion) and headed over! It was raining. AND I was 30 minutes early, giving me the chance to check out the nearest Starbucks, which is probably the coolest ‘bucks I’ve ever been to.
The interview did not leave me feeling confident, to say the least. I was actually so bummed afterwards that I went and bought myself a doughnut. Yeah, it was that bad.
But with encouragement from my friends and family, I decided to just let it be. If I didn’t get it, at least I knew what not to do next time. So, I waited.
And then the email to end all emails came…I got the job! (I know, BIG surprise!) But I was surprised! I couldn’t believe it, really.
But it’s true. Signed contract in hand. This thing is real. And now I have a sweet Starbucks to blog in. And new design friends to make.
And an amazing studio to work in and hopefully inspiring and exciting work to do! I am sad to be leaving the people I’ve grown so close to over the past year, but working in an agency made up of all creatives will be a nice change of pace. It’s time. Thanks for putting up with my light posting lately. Unfortunately, until I get into the new groove, I might be a little light for a while. But now you know why!
